At Sparx, we’re focused on one thing: Maximising learning, helping your students thrive and giving you the tools and visibility to support them.
We’ve been hearing something important from you: It’s getting harder to know if students are truly doing their homework properly.
Shortcuts have always existed. But with AI, it’s now easier for students to bypass the work, making it harder for you to judge what effort is really going on and, crucially, to know what impact this might be having on your students' learning.
We’ve developed the Lesson Quiz to help encourage the right habits, and give you the data to have those conversations that uphold the high standards we all want for our students and their learning.
Functionality & Mechanics
How does the quiz work and how can I run the quiz?
How does the quiz work and how can I run the quiz?
The Lesson Quiz is available on the Follow up Page, and can be created for each homework, after the hand in deadline has passed. At the point you generate the quiz, we will use homework completion information to choose the questions. The higher the homework completion is, the better the quality of the quiz.
You can choose to run the quiz by printing it out onto a sheet, by presenting it on the board, or you can run it digitally by students logging into their Sparx accounts.
How are the questions selected for each quiz?
How are the questions selected for each quiz?
We take a subset of questions that students answered correctly in their homework, to use in the quiz. These will either be the same questions that were seen in homework, or will be key skills from the topics that students have demonstrated they can answer correctly in homework.

Once a quiz is generated, a results table for your class will show, highlighting homework completion information, with an additional column available to enter marks for each student.
Note: When running the quiz digitally, marks will automatically populate for each student.

Why won't my class quiz generate this week?
Why won't my class quiz generate this week?
Occasionally, we will be unable to generate a quiz for a homework. The reasons for this tend to fall into one of 3 categories
Homework completion isn't high enough
In order to generate a quiz that can accurately test students on the homework they've done, we need to ensure enough students have actually seen the content. If homework completion for the week is <50%, the quiz will not generate.
Ensuring more of the homework is completed would allow you to generate the quiz.
Question performance is low
If we see that students generally struggled on a lot of the questions, we might be unable to reliably choose questions we think students can answer confidently, and therefore not generate the quiz.
Too many homework topics
If the homework covers too many topics, the coverage of questions in the homework might be too broad for us to select 5 representative questions that we're confident the class have seen in their homework, and therefore not generate the quiz.
