Accessing and interpreting reports

Sparx Maths provides several detailed reports to help you track student progress, homework completion, and engagement. This article explains how to access and interpret the different reports available to you.

Student Activity Report

This report can be accessed via Reporting -> Downloadable Reports.

Building your report

When you click Create report, you'll be asked to choose the categories of data that you want to include, and the timeframe for which you wish to generate the report (defaults to the current academic year).

Default data

  • Student data - first name, surname, class, year group and registration group

  • Weekly completion % - as well as completion date and aggregate data for the timeframe selected.

  • Student homework settings - Homework Difficulty Level, homework type and default homework length

Optional data

  • Additional student data - PP (pupil premium), FSM (free school meals), EAL (English as an additional language), Gender

    • This data can only be included if we sync data from your MIS and your school's Wonde administrator has granted Sparx access to this data (if we've been granted access to some, but not all data, we'll include the data that we're able to)

  • Teacher names - includes the name(s) of any teachers associated with a class

Using filters to analyse your report

  • Most popular spreadsheet software allows you to easily filter and sort the data in your spreadsheet

  • You can use these features to help you to analyse the data in your student activity report

  • For example, in Microsoft Excel you can:

    • Use the dropdown arrows to the right of each column header to filter or sort the rows

    • Hide entire rows and/or columns that you are not interested in, in order to see a more streamlined view by right-clicking on the column letter or row number and selecting "Hide column/row"

XP Report

You can download the XP report by visiting Reporting > Student Reward > XP Report, where you can also generate certificates. More information can be found on our article about Student rewards and recognition.

Homework Statistics Page

The Homework Statistics Page can be found via the button on the Reporting page. It features a line chart and table format where you can track and compare weekly homework all-time completion across all weeks in this academic year.

You can view the data for your classes ('my classes'), all classes or specific classes within a year group, by year group and whole school.

On the Whole School view, you can see the percentage of the hand in pages that have been viewed by their assigned class teacher and on the Class view, you can select the tick box to show assigned teachers & hand-in view percentages.

This details is also summarised at the top of the page, showing if this percentage has improved or not. Our studies consistently show that viewing the hand-in page before the deadline, results in a much higher completion rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my student activity report taking a long time to download?

Adding more data categories will mean that the report takes longer to generate. The report can also take longer to generate later in the school year when there's more data to process. If you're a larger school and generate a report containing all data categories towards the end of the school year, the report could take up to 2 minutes to generate.

How does the date filter work?

The student activity report reports by week. It's not possible to generate a report for a time period of less than a week. When you select a start and end date for the report, we'll include data for the full weeks that encompass your selected dates.

Can I add SEND data to the reports?

We don't include SEND data in any reports. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) consider such data to be 'special category data', which needs more protection than other categories of data.

Can I see the Homework Statistics during a different date range?

We do not currently have a date range function, if you'd like to see this, please leave us feedback on the feedback board.
